About Dave and Shadra, Your Wobbly Ramblers
We’re nomads at heart and believe we were born with a travel bug.
Dave served in the Air Force and ended his service stationed at Lindsey Air Station in Weisbaden, Germany. During his time in Germany, he was able to travel extensively and get a taste of European life.
Shadra traveled with her family as a child on road trips through most of the Western U.S. and lived in Nevada, South Dakota, Idaho, and Washington with summers in Southern California.
Together since 1997, we’ve traversed the U.S. multiple times between five cross-country moves and two 30-day-plus road trips. We tried settling down and living the typical lifestyle with corporate jobs and the family home (complete with a white picket fence) but never really felt settled.
We explored as much as we could, and had the freedom to go since we had opened our own digital marketing agency, but we still felt tethered – to a house, to stuff, to the traditional lifestyle of most families. We’re not knocking it – a lot of people are really happy with that life and the stability it brings. It just wasn’t for us.
In 2015 we started earnestly talking about what life would look like as the kids got older and moved out. We realized we wanted to be free to travel, and started on the path to minimalism. That alone was freeing!
But when our daughter got married and moved overseas with our grandkids that sealed the deal – we sold everything, leased out our home, and caught a plane to England.
Now we roam Western Europe on the regular, live out of suitcases, and travel non-stop.
